Currently, 58 out of 67 county school districts are open, with more intending to reopen next Tuesday. Through collaborative efforts of the Department of Education and the Department of Children and Families, the Governor has supported the safe reopening of all schools as soon as possible. These announcements follow a series of actions by the Governor to support Florida policyholders when disaster strikes. Additional announcements include the approval of a fifth property insurer since March and the approval of 202,399 additional takeout requests from Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (Citizens). Governor Ron DeSantis provided updates for Florida policyholders following Hurricane Idalia, including the issuance of an emergency order by the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) to protect policyholders impacted by the storm. He was joined by Florida State Guard Lieutenant Tom Fabricio and Department of Children and Families Secretary Shevaun Harris. Today, Governor DeSantis provided updates about the Hurricane Idalia recovery efforts while visiting a Point of Distribution established by the Florida State Guard at Suwannee Riverside Elementary School.
